Review of Voip Providers

The popularity of the internet has made the concept of globalization more real and achievable as more people from all over the world communicate with each other through emails, live chat and video conferencing. Internet use has truly made the world a smaller place to live with and to do business in as more technological advances make communication more efficient.

Such is the movement of technology that even before the forty and the fifty something citizens have learned to use the internet, another technology is out in the market. The new kid on the block is a blessing to many people who love to call friends and business colleagues from all over the globe. With the new VoIP, they can make as many phone calls at the least possible cost.

VoIP, which means Voice over Internet Protocol, allows internet users to make calls in any part of the world using an ordinary phone but the call passes through the internet and not the local or international phone company. Calling other places in the globe using VoIP is much like using the ordinary phone lines and the person at the other end of the line would not even have any idea that you are calling through VoIP.

You can save thousands of dollars by making phone calls all over the world using the voice over internet protocol. Under the VoIP system, you may live in the United States but if you regularly call people in the United Kingdom either for business or person al reasons, then you can choose a VoIP provider that will provide you a UK number. This way, you are making local calls and not international calls despite the call originating from the United States.

Most VoIP providers will provide the user with an adapter that can be connected to the phone and to the router or the broadband internet modem. The provider company bills the user with a fixed monthly rate. The user can still use his old phone for domestic and other calls.

There are a number of VoIP service providers that offer different plans and you just have to choose the best package from among them. The different VoIP providers may have different costs but in the end, they all end up at the same rate and the only difference is the package being offered.

Choosing from the various providers can be tricky but no matter what VoIP service provider you choose, make sure to inquire about their area of coverage like the countries where the free calls will apply. Almost all VoIP providers offer caller ID, call forwarding and waiting as well as voice mail.

Among the top VoIP providers are Vonage, Skype, TelExtreme, Packet8, BroadVox Direct, Lingo and Voip Net. You can also choose from SunRocket, Via:Talk, Verizon or Vonics.

Skype used to be the popular thing among students due to its free calls between personal computers but it is now becoming a byword among business users. Packet8 is highly recommended for businesses and it has an unlimited plan package for Canada, Europe and Asia. TelExtreme has a more expensive rate at $59 per month (may vary over time) and users have to buy the adapter at $199.

Vonage is a good choice for business as it presently provider support to at least fifty thousand clients. Small business can opt for the $49.99 (may vary over time) unlimited plan to Canada and the United States. VoIP .Net on the other hand has an unlimited $44.95 (may vary over time) plan for calls to the United States and Canada. Lingo VoIP offers an unlimited plan for phone calls to Canada and United States as well as to seventeen other countries in Europe. Lingo is probably the best choice for business that makes international calls regularly since you are given 15 local numbers in different countries.

While VoIP service is relatively cheap, it does not mean that it is of lesser quality than calls made through regular phone lines. VoIP calls are far from inferior as the reception is sometimes clearer than regular phone lines. Perhaps it is the reason, aside form the lesser cost of course, why most people choose to make their calls through VoIP.
